At the 1997 Atheist Alliance convention, FSGP unveiled its plan for a new committee; The Mentor Connection (MC).
The committee's purpose is to connect persons who are new to activism with longtime experienced activists. Mentor candidates will be asked for references. A screening process will apply that includes the ability to inspire, relate to and teach proteges. Willingness to commit time and energy required for mentoring will also be taken into account. We are looking for a diversity of personality and backgrounds among mentors. Proteges will want different types of people as mentors. Matching personality types is a priority.
Protege candidates will more than likely be assigned a mentor immediately and be invited to attend the next organizational meeting. The Mentor Connection will concentrate on establishing a support network for the secular humanist community. The Mentor Connection will enable concerned Secular Humanists to link up via cross referencing. Members of the Mentor Connection will bring new vitality to current social issues facing the Secular Humanist community. Secular Humanist mentors can offer guidance, advice and support to fellow Secular Humanists.
If you are interested in becoming a part of this networking effort as a protege or mentor, email us at fsgp at freethought.org.
